Sustainability
Express Scripts and our employees strive to enhance and sustain the world's natural and social environments.
Putting Our Words Into Practice
At Express Scripts, we take sustainability seriously. Watch an interview about how we have looked at our corporate structure to identify what we can do to lessen our impact on the environment.
What Are We Doing for the Environment?
We constantly look for ways to reduce energy costs and consumption to ensure a sustainable future, such as:
- Reducing business travel: We added video conferencing equipment to all of our locations encouraging electronic collaboration and document sharing.
- Diminishing waste: We created an electronic company newsletter and eliminated 30,000 printed copies, and we use smaller bottles for filling prescriptions that reduce material use and shipping costs.
- Recycling: We've created patent-pending technology to securely dispose of and recycle prescription bottles, as well as office-wide recycling programs for paper, computers, batteries, and electronics.
- Environmentally-friendly offices: Our headquarter buildings, built in 2007, were constructed for environmental excellence and are LEED-certified. Our buildings reduce greenhouse emissions and have saved more than 220 tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere since 2007. They also use features such as white roofing materials and low-flow plumbing to reduce energy use.
We received the St. Louis Regional Chamber & Growth Association's Circle of Excellence award in 2010 and 2011 for our innovative measures in sustainability.
