Automatic Prescription Refills Require Your Consent

Starting September 1, 2017, upon renewal of your maintenance medication, the automatic refill program requires your consent. By providing consent, you have more control over what medications are enrolled in the program. This program enhancement will be phased in through December 1, 2017 and requires you to take action to stay enrolled. For each prescription enrolled in the automatic refill program, you need to take action once your last remaining refill is processed. Your prescription will no longer be re-enrolled, unless Express Scripts hears back from you.

What to expect

If your medication is enrolled in the automatic refill program, here is what you can expect to happen:

  • When your last remaining prescription refill is processed by TRICARE® Pharmacy Home Delivery, Express Scripts will attempt to contact you either by email or an automated phone call (depending on your communication preference).
  • We will ask you:
    • Would you like Express Scripts to reach out to your provider and obtain a new prescription?
    • Do you want to keep the prescription enrolled in the automatic refill program?
  • To provide your consent, simply follow the instructions included in the email or give your consent during the automated outbound call.
  • If Express Scripts does not receive your consent within 10 days of reaching out to you, your medication will be disenrolled from the automatic refill program.

How to re-enroll

It’s simple. If your medication was disenrolled from the program or you want to enroll a new medication, you can enroll eligible prescriptions any time. Choose the option that is most convenient for you.

  • Go Online:
    • Sign in to your account at
    • Choose which medicine(s) you want enrolled in automatic refills.
    • Click the ‘Start Automatic Refills’ button.
    • Follow the steps listed in the Automatic Refills Beneficiary Guide (PDF file) to enroll eligible prescriptions, renew a prescription, and remove a prescription from automatic refills.

  • Call Express Scripts:
    • Call 877.363.1303 and a Patient Care Advocate will assist you.
