Helping Members Cope with COVID-19


We don’t know what the coming weeks and months will bring as we manage through the COVID-19 pandemic; however, we do know that our members need additional care and support right now.

Our experience building our Digital Health Formulary allows us to move swiftly to bring urgently needed solutions to our plans and members. In this time of self-quarantine and social distancing, digital health tools can empower people, alleviate their concerns, and help them think and feel better, all from the safety and comfort of their home.

We’re working with two leading digital health care companies to address members’ physical and mental health during this time.

Buoy Health for Express Scripts Symptom Checker

The Buoy Health for Express Scripts Symptom Checker incorporates guidance from the CDC to help people figure out what to do when they're sick.

Members are able to quickly evaluate their symptoms to assess their COVID-19 risk and find the right care. This self-triage at home helps to alleviate demand on over-burdened emergency rooms, urgent care centers and telemedicine consults.

Since implementing the CDC’s COVID-19 guidelines on February 5, Buoy Health has seen that 90 percent of the more than 53,000 users who’ve come to Buoy specifically about coronavirus have not needed hospital care.

SilverCloud Health

SilverCloud Health’s digital health platform, which is included on the Express Scripts Digital Health Formulary, enables members to build resilience, and develop skills to better manage stress and sleep issues. Based on principles of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and positive psychology, the action-oriented solutions could help members build self-awareness and self-management skills to improve emotional health.

With this platform, people being asked or required to stay home, or who have challenges accessing mental health services, can gain access to supportive programs focused on stress, sleep, and resilience during this difficult time.

The SilverCloud Health platform, and the Buoy Health for Express Scripts Symptom Checker, may be extended to members through their employer or health plan.

We know our members need help managing the physical and emotional toll of the COVID-19 pandemic.  Working with these platforms, we can make these tools available quickly, and in this instance, accessible to members for free, to help ease the burden on our health care system, and keep members on a healthy path during this uncertain time.
