TRICARE Pharmacy Copayments Change February 1, 2018

Starting February 1, 2018, the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) requires TRICARE to change its prescription copayments. TRICARE pharmacy copayment changes impact all beneficiaries except Active Duty Service Members, dependent survivors of Active Duty Service Members, and medically retired service members and their dependents.

What is Changing

Copayments will increase for prescription drugs at TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery and retail network pharmacies. Medications at military treatment facilities will still be available to TRICARE beneficiaries at no cost.

Retail pharmacy copayments for up to a 30-day supply:

  • Generic drug copayments go from $10 to $11
  • Brand-name drug copayments go from $24 to $28
  • Non-formulary drugs will increase from $50 to $53 (NOTE: Non-formulary drugs are generally only available through TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery.)
Home Delivery copayments for up to a 90-day supply:
  • Generic drugs through Home Delivery will increase from $0 to $7
  • Brand-name drugs through Home Delivery will increase from $20 to $24
  • Non-formulary drugs will increase from $49 to $53

Active Duty Service Members can get prescriptions filled from any pharmacy at no cost. Copayments will remain the same as the 2017 rates for dependent survivors of Active Duty Service Members and medically retired service members and their dependents.
